There is one man whose music will instantaneously calm me down: James Taylor. Those vibes have been soaking through my being since I was in utero. Lately I’ve been especially attached to his album Hourglass, specifically a song called Up Er Mai, about climbing Emai mountain in China. Is starts- “we were walking in paradise, never did notice.” Always makes me look up and recognize what is good. Just like this practice of naming delights, inspired by the great writer and poet Ross Gay.
I once had a boyfriend who briefly tricked me into believing he had the whole James Taylor discography in the trunk of his car. Still brings a huge smile to my face. Comedy and art, saving the day again and again.
